Signs of the Times: Top Signage Trends for 2018
The way we communicate and do business is constantly evolving. 2019 is expected to bring exciting new trends to many different industries, and the sign industry is no exception. New technology has brought new options to the forefront and sometimes we find that what is trending is actually something from the past that has become popular yet again. As a business owner, it is important to note upcoming trends to ensure that you are investing in signage that is able to stay ahead of the competition. We have listed a few signage trends to keep your eyes on for the new year:
- Texture Printing is based on the 3D printing technology and has a few interesting applications. Making ADA signs that include braille for the vision impaired is an exciting application because as a business owner, anything that can be done to make it easier and safer for everyone to get around your building is important. The other innovative application for texture printing is perhaps more for a high-end or designer touch – imagine a wall mural with a basketball incorporated into the design. When you touch the basketball, it will actually have the texture of the ball. Imagine having a feature wall that not only looks like brick but also feels like brick. The possibilities are endless with texture printing!
- Building Wraps are a great way to make a huge impact on everyone driving or walking by your building. Your design can wrap around your whole building, the street side of your building, one or two floors or whatever works best for your message and physical location. Many companies have used building wraps to hide construction during a remodel; it’s a good way to keep the new look under wraps until your grand opening, for example. If your business is feeling particularly festive, your building wrap may incorporate a holiday theme or it may align with a new product launch or your next big campaign. Let your imagination go wild!
- History Walls focus on your brand’s story and can take many forms. Sometimes they are created in chronological order but in some cases, a story-based approach would work best. A main hallway that everyone walks through or part of your lobby would be a great place for a history wall so that everyone who enters your corporate headquarters, hospital, school, etc. will learn a little about how you have evolved over the years. A big anniversary might be a great time to have a history wall installed and then you can reveal it during your anniversary celebration. History walls are completely customizable so it may include a wall mural in your color scheme applied to the entire length of the wall as a background with wood or even acrylic signs mounted over it that include text explaining major events or accomplishments in your company’s history. Pictures can also be a fun part of the design. The use of various materials makes the history wall that much more interesting.
- Lobby Walls and Reception Signage help you make a fantastic first impression and show off your logo in a big way. These signs often sit near your receptionist at your main entrance and can be designed to include your logo, color scheme and even your tagline. Is your current logo feeling a little outdated? Maybe it’s time for a redesigned logo or a whole rebranding of your company in 2019; a new lobby wall with a coordinating reception sign will help complete the entire project and wow every visitor to your building.
